I've Never Been a Winner!

I enjoyed all your comments, although I still can't figure out which two of Lott's three will never change. Were you announcing something Lott? :)

Before we get to the good news, I have to share more good news with you. I've been sending my book out to book review blogs, and two of the reviews have just come in. You're gonna want to read this gushing review by the fabulous Tristi Pinkston. And then there's another good review by the wonderful I'd So Rather Be Reading Blog. If you're coming up dry on books to read, that's a great place to get some ideas.

So now on to our winner. This week's prize is a *signed* copy of Generations. This is the first time I've given away my book on my blog. I'd say it's just like my library books--a bit overdue.

And the winner is ... is ... is. Ok, hold on a second. I know this is strange, but the winning number is the same as last week's. But here's this week's picture from Random.org:

And here's last week's picture:

You can see that the pictures are different, right? I don't want to be accused accepting bribes or anything. So believe it or not, #6 was again the winner. However, it was a different sister this time. Congrats Janice. And I couldn't agree with you more: Robert Pattinson is NOT good looking.

If you've never been a winner on this blog, keep trying. Luck will soon be on your side, I can tell. And don't sit around and wait to be commenter #6.

Well, I Never!

So hi. How are ya?

Just in case you are curious about my writing process, I thought I'd tell you just a bit.

I'm a scene writer. I form a scene in my head; including location, time of day, body position, etc, and then I add in the conversation. I go over the dialogue thousands of times in my head. And then I sit down to write it. I can spend weeks thinking about the same scene before it finally makes its way on to paper, and I typically can't think of more than one scene at a time. Once the scene is written, I number it (I do a entire outline beforehand so I know how many scenes I will have) and then I save the document. I keep writing this way, one scene at a time until the book is done. BUT. I do not write the scenes in order. That's the fun part. I have to piece everything together like a puzzle.

Why am I telling you all this? Just because I wanted to share something with you about book one in the Wilder Times Series. I started writing it back in 2009 and one of the very first scenes I wrote was the "I Have Never" scene. Even though I've written dozens more scenes for the trilogy since then, the "I Have Never" scene remains one of my favorites.  Not because it's anything poignant or pivotal, but just because it's fun. And because of the budding romance. (I am such a hopeless romantic!) If you don't know the scene I am talking about, get thee over to Amazon and start reading.

Have you guys ever played the "I Have Never" game? Would you want to play it today? It's very simple. All you have to do is try to trump the other players by saying something that you've never done before, but you are pretty sure that the rest of the world has done. You want to drop some jaws.

Here's my "I Have Nevers"
I have never ... had a manicure
I have never ... flown overseas
I have never ... eaten lobster (or crab or clams or pretty much anything else that belongs in water and not on a plate)
I have never ... been pulled over by a cop (knock on wood)

So how about you? What have You Never?

Play along for your chance to win (and for some darn good entertainment as well.)

A beautiful winner

Thanks for making me feel better about getting older! You guys are the best! Now does anyone have any advice on how to get kids to act their age? (I think the comment my kids will always remember me saying is, "How old are you ? Two?" I'm not running for mother of the year.)

So this week's winner gets some yummy smelling lotion and shower gel from Bath and Body Works. I heart B&BW. If I can't look good, at least I can smell good.

Bonus: it's cherry scented. And if there is one thing we Flatheadians are known for, it's our cherries.

This week's winner is:

#6. PaulaShawn! I'm so glad you are coming to town so I don't have to ship that sucker! Thank you!

Come back next week everyone. I know you're looking forward to it already!

The Morning After

This morning I awoke with the bright sun shining through my window and a chorus of birds singing their cheerful songs. I smiled as I thought of going to the lake and having another slice (or two) of birthday cake. I went to the bathroom to wash the sleep from my eyes. And when I looked in the mirror, I saw this.

I screamed, so it's okay if you do too.

It would appear that I just got another year older, wouldn't it?

I am at the point in life where the forces of nature are against me. But I shall not give up without a fight.

So it's advice time again. What products do you use to make yourself beautiful? Hair? Make-up? Skin care? Do tell all! I need to restock my arsenal. And I'm not necessarily looking for specific advice like, "They are called tweezers, Lori. Get some!" Just give me your best tips so I can gain courage to leave the house again.

Comments will close late Weds. night and the winner will be announced on Thurs.

And thanks to everyone for playing along on Facebook last week. If you haven't already done so, please like the Wilder Times Fan Page. Grazie!

Rats!

Well hi! Fancy meeting you here. On my blog. On a Tuesday. It's like it's fate or something.

Or maybe you're like conditioned rats and you know that there will be a reward if you show up here every week.

Well guess what? This week, I'm going to do something different. I know we are just getting the hang of things around here .... BUT! I can't resist. I want to see how this BlogAway contest thing works on (duh duh duh duh) FACEBOOK.

So basically, it works just the same. Pop on over to the new Wilder Times Facebook page and leave a comment and get entered to win the prize. You can read the instructions over there.

Next week, we will be back here on the blog doing things just like normal.

What's that you say? You're not on Facebook? I'm sorry that you will miss out, truly I am. Please don't be sad! I'm sure you can find something worthwhile to do. It is summer after all.

Oh ... and before you go .... guess what? I am now a DOT COM! I'm moving up in the world! So if you want to tell your friends about my cool book, all you have to do is say lorifolkman.com. Or if you want to tell your friends to come play on the blog, all you have to do is say lorifolkman.com. Or if you want to tell your friends to come play on Facebook, all you have to do is say lorifolkman.com.  All the neccessary links are there at lorifolkman.com! One more time, that website is lorifolkman.com.

See ya somewhere around the webisphere!

Winner of the dream vacation

Oh, wait. That title might be deceiving. The prize isn't a dream vacation. That was just the topic. I wish I could send one lucky person on their dream vacation. But ya know, I haven't sold enough books for that to happen yet. Maybe next year. :)

So this week's winner gets something to help them on their dream vacation. You're gonna need a super cute makeup bag for your travels. Like this one:

And there's actually two coordinating bags there. Two! Yippee.

The winner this week (oh my, we have so many comments. How cool is that?) ... wait, before I announce the winner, let me just say that you guys are a great bunch of blogger friends. I have so much fun reading what you have to say.

Also, I hope I didn't forget to add anyone. I almost forgot to add Jessica's bonus. If I ever mess up, you can file a complaint with BlogAway's Customer Service Director. (That position is currently vacant. The last gal up and quit on me.)

Ok, so now I'm just stalling. I bet the suspense is killing you. The winner is ...

Caitlin! #20. The make-up bags will come in so handy at college! Contact me to claim your bag.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Have Sun, Will Travel

Did everyone have a fabulous Fourth? We were super excited to have the sun as a visitor at the festivities this weekend. He can come hang out around here anytime. It's so nice to see color on everyone's skin: we look a lot less Carlisle Cullen-ish.

Folkmans before the holiday:

Folkmans after the holiday:

Much better.

We had one minor tragedy during our celebration.  A water bomb blew a hole in our kiddie pool. But not to worry, hubby reassured me that he can patch the hole with duct tape. Yes, we are redneck wannabes.

So here's what I've been thinking about lately: if money and time were not an object, where would you vacation this summer?  Since I lack both money and time, I won't be taking any big trips. But if I could, I would head to Californ-I-A. First I would take the kids to Disneyland, SeaWorld, and the beach, then I would leave the kids with the (nonexistent) nanny while I head to Hollywood to hunt down Ben Wilder.

What? You don't know who Ben Wilder is? Holy cow. Where've you been? You can read about him here

(That's me in the red bikini. I'm lookin good, aren't I? I went on a serious diet after last week's whale post.)

This week's comment thread should include the following:
Where would you take a dream vacation this summer? And why would you choose said destination?

And ... for bonus points: What do you think Ben Wilder looks like? If you can give me a description of how you picture Ben Wilder, I will enter your screen name four more times, quadrupling your chance to win.

Since it's summer and we're all away from the computer, I'm extending the window. The comment thread will close Thursday evening and I will post the winner on Friday. Ready, set, go!
